Default Need flatbed scanner advice

I'm replacing my HP 7400c and need a good flatbed. It's needed for
family photo scanning plus document scanning. I bought an Epson V200
but I find the software is a bit too cumbersome to use compared to my
old HP. I'm willing to spend a few bucks if there is anything out
there that is a good general-use scanner (I can still return the
Epson.)

Or should I just keep my HP if I can find a way to operate it with a
Mac in the future?

I use Vuescan Pro (Windows) but generally with my film scanner. Will
Vuescan for Mac enable any scanner with that OS? Apparently there is
no Mac driver for my HP 74000c 0r my Canon FS4000, or does that
matter?

I believe it will also work in a similar manner with a variety of
scanners under mac OS - but I don't have a mac, so can't say for sure.
Download the mac trial - try it out - see what happens. Should only
take 10 minutes at the most to reach a conclusion.

Thank you to those who tried to give me advice. As is usual in these
cases I found my own answer but you did contribute to the thought
process that went into my decision. In the end I am keeping the Epson
V200 as I found it did a slightly sharper photo scan than my ancient
HP 7400c which originally cost quite a bit more than the Epson. The
other consideration was useability. I have become used to the extra
steps involved in doing a scan and found ways to get around having to
change so many settings for different types of originals.

I was also concerned about my Canon FS4000US being compatible with
Macs, but there is a driver available in case I need it. Now it would
be nice if the SCSI port could be changed to Firewire, but alas it
can't. Or so I've been advised by Canon.
