Running MS DOS on an LCD by
don
I still have an old 486 DOS machine which I do use, but I'd like to upgrade
the 60lb monitor with a new LCD one.
Would like to know if DOS and WIN 3.1 would be able to use this new
technology.
The machine does have a fairly good video card in it.

Phenom 8750 and cooling requirements by
kenk
I am going to be building my first AMD-based computer. I have settled
on the 8750--it will be used mainly in a business environment without
gaming, so it will not be very "stressed".
What kind of cooling apparatus is needed for this cpu? Is there a
cooler provided by AMD? Is it sufficient?...

Athlon 64 3800+ Vs Athlon 64 X2 4800 by
Victek
I'm considering upgrading my single core Athlon 64 3800+ to a dual core
Athlon X2 4800. The 4800 in the name suggests a significant performance
increase, but I wonder if there really is since the actual frequencies are
2.4 Ghz and 2.5 Ghz respectively? Does anyone have experience with these...

phenom II and XP by
ken
I have updated my MSI K9A2 cf-f with a Phenom II X3 720. XP recognizes
the 3 cores in Device Manager, shows only 2 cores in Task Manager and
AMD OverDrive shows only 2 cores and Cell Temp shows only 2 cores.
Any ideas short of doing an XP repair???

original Phenoms and the TLB bug-- still good enough? by
Darren Garrison
Anyone running Phenom "1" processors that have the TLB bug? Is it obscure
enough that you can still use the CPU without typically running into it?
I ask because I had been planning on waiting until around the end of the year
and seeing what prices were like on Phenom II quads to do a drop-in...

Overclocking Phemon II 940 by
DaveN
What are safe temps for overclocking this chip? I'm trying to see if I
can knock off a day or two on long 3D renders by overclocking.
Right now it peaks at 64c during the day when the house is warmer.
Thanks!

AM2 temps, Brisbane 6000+ by
tonyk
I think I've finally gotten temp readings that reflect what my temps should
be, 42c at idle never above 60c at full load.
I have Speedfan 4.38b reporting the cpu temp at the same temp as the bios,
while core temp 99.5 shows core 0 and core 1 as about 4c higher.
My question: Should the core...

Phenom 64-bit virtualization capabilities by
Jan Wielemaker
Hi,
I'm trying to run WindowsXP-64 under 64-bit Linux on a machine with
this processor (according to /proc/cpuinfo):
AMD Phenom(tm) 9600B Quad-Core Processor
Sofar, vmware 5.5.9 and VirtualBox 2.1.4 both refuse, claiming they
cannot virtualize 64-bit on this processor. XEN refuses because...

Overheating Issue by
DaveN
I have a box I built for handling long 3D renders and I am having major
overheating issues.
The box is identical to my primary machine in every aspect because I
need my renders to look exactly like they do when I create the proofs on
my computer.
Fans, CPU, motherboard, video card, memory,...

Anyone tried installing the 64-bit version of Windows 7 yet? by
Darren Garrison
I tried installing the 64-bit version of Beta 1 of Windows 7-- got 3/4 of the
way through setup, it told me that Windows could not be installed on this
hardware, exited. No details given on what was incompatible. Had to restore XP
from a Ghost backup. CPU is Athlon X2 5050e, motherboard is...

Phenom II Requires BIOS Update? by
Peter van der Goes[_2_]
I currently have two AMD boxes, an AM2 (M2N-e) and an AM2+ (M3A). Both are
currently running Phenoms (9500 and 9850 Black, respectively).
Any thoughts on whether these boards will work with a Phenom II, or will a
BIOS update from Asus be required?
