Software To Turn Linux Into Fibre Channel Storage System by
Paul Galjan
Softek, which is owned by
Fujitsu, purchased a license of Datacores SanSymphony code. The Softek
engineer said to me that they had to do a lot of work to stablize
Datacore's code. He then admitted to me that if he was in my shoes that
he would not use this type of virtualization...

Is There a Source Control-like Backup Program? by

it is possible. The only real question is how to scale that

the requirements of replication across multiple mirrored data

Thinking about Online Backup Over the Internet by
Jason James
Hi,
I'm interested in hearing experiences with online backup providers,
positive, negative or otherwise. We're a small company with almost
200GB of data on Solaris and Win2K servers that we have been backing
up to tape. We are investigating online backup services offered by
EVault, LiveVault, and...

Tape Erase or format request by
Howard Huntley
I want to thank you for your reply. I solved the problem with the
tapes being rejected by adding the carts to a group and erasing them.
I now am facing an exsisting problem. The drives will not compress.
Each of the drives have hardware compression enabled but when I enable
compression in the...

share your opinion and experience with mid-tier SAN devices by
Greg Guenther
I gotta say, you must be one of the 8 people that have had a good
experience with EMC. I've yet to meet face to face an EMC customer
who isn't tired of them and wish they cold toss them out completely.
We started out with EMC/Clariion Hardware at our shop and have been
extremely happy

Fabric OS - switch won't initialize? by
Patrick Young
We have a EMC DS-16B switch that boots, however never gets
to be in an online and ready state. At the prompt most
commands reveal "Switch not ready", and subsequent
logins produce the message "WARNING: switch still
initializing - please wait".
The problem is it *never* finishes initializing....

sharing HBAs between disk and tape by

Can a single fibrechannel HBA be shared between disk and tape?
This is for a Windows 2000 fileserver that has an HBA for SAN disk
but will now run backup and/or HSM to fibrechannel drives that
are also SAN-attached. If the HBA can be shared can it support
simultaneous access to more than one tape...

Homebrew Snap Server / Netdisk ? by

Does anyone sell a SnapServer-like kit, where you provide your
own drive(s)?
I'm hoping for a network-attached, not firewire/usb device, in a very
small package, so it can go on the road, that allows drives to appear
as multiple 32g FAT32 partitions, so I can still access them from
Windows 95...
