SDRAM memory problem by
Gordon
I built this computer several years ago, using an ASUS P2B-S
mainboard, an Intel Pentium III 501 MHz CPU and two Viking128 MB
SDRAM memory modules for a total of 256 MB of RAM. This computer
has worked very well over the years. I am now running Windows XP
Pro with Service Pack 2.
Recently I tried...

A8N-E and dual core Athlon X2 by
James
Well, I have the 1005 BIOS now and I'm thinking about upgrading to a
4400+ dual core Athlon CPU.
My question is, is the performance increase worth the $650 for the chip?
I would also like to upgrade my OS to Windows XP64, but I'm having
trouble finding 64-bit drivers for everything.
Has anyone...

Graphics bad by
reqluq
Hi, I began to see bad spotting on my monitor, so I tried another monitor
and it did the same. Assuming it was the vga card (geforce 200) I bought a
new card and installed it..same thing; in safe mode also. Is there something
on the motherboard that would cause this? I checked the bios...

Asus M2A-VM: Would a dedicated video card be an improvement? by
Igor[_2_]
I'm putting together a budget PC based on the Asus M2A-VM motherboard.
I'm going to load it up with 2 GB DDR2, an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+, and
the OS will be Windows XP (SP2).
This machine will *not* be used to play video games, but it will be
used for video editing and DVD authoring.
It's my...

P5/Celeron comments? by
bob9
After years of owning Asus/AMD boards, I'm now forced to get all Intel. This
is to run my home security system which will NOT work with AMD chips.
I like the P5 boards, but there are sooooooo many to choose from. That's my
problem, but wondering if anyone has any general comments about the...

Hi,
Im about to remove my A7N8X Deluxe motherboard from my computer case to
install a heatsink fan.
Ive typically been using a standard non magnetised screwdriver in the past,
but am thinking about using a magnetised screwdriver to remove and install
the motherboard in and out of the case.

How can one flash the A8N32-SLI BIOS chip ? by
Skybuck
Hello,
I am more the kind of "do it yourself" type when it comes to
computers :)
Flashing the (presumably) dead BIOS chip myself seems interesting.
So far I have learned of two options:
1. Hot swapping the bios. (weir/unreliable and dangerous)

Rebooted and my computer won't boot up. by
Ant
Hello!
Earlier today, I was doing stuff in Debian like upgrading my Kernel
(2.6.18 with an updated package) and rebooted. The computer never
rebooted and it just got stuck (I think after shutdown -r now told it to
reboot -- shutdown seems to have completed).
Hitting the reset button didn't do...

Asus P5W DH Deluxe issues by
Mitch Crane
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Crucial Ballistix 1GBx2 2GB Dual Channel kit BL12864AA804
XP Pro
First Problem:
The BIOS detects them as PC2-4300/DDR2-533, but they are DDr2-800 sticks.
Everest IDs them correctly as DDR2-800. The system will not boot if I
manual set the system to DDR2-800. Crucial says they...

PPro on a BX? by
P2B
I intercepted some old systems on their way to the dumpster today, and
grabbed a couple of interesting items I hadn't seen befo Asus C-P6S1
Socket-8 to Slot-1 adapters, complete with PPro 200Mhz/1MB L2 CPUs. They
were on Asus 440FX boards, KN97-X IIRC.
I tried them on a few Asus 440BX boards...

Building my own PC -- hardware advice needed by
John Blaustein
Hi,
I am going to build my own PC -- first time I've done this. My main use of
the PC that requires power and speed is Photoshop CS. I will not do any
gaming or anything else that requires 3D graphics.
Having had two PCs with ASUS motherboards that worked very well, I will
stick with...

Capacitor by
Frank
Hello,
perhaps this is dumb, but I do not know an answer.
I got 2 machines at work which work like a charm. No hangups, no bluescreen.
Perfect.
Now as I opened them for cleaning I noticed 2 capacitors with brown crusting
on the top. Seems as they had those for a little while. Nowhere else was...
