How tight by
Andi Cole
How toght do I tighten the nuts on a Thermaltake Silent Tower fitted to an
LGA775 motherboard (Abit AA8-Duramax). My first attempt created a CPU
Voltage check error in POST so I slackened the nuts off a bit, the HSF can
be moved slightly with slippery thermal paste (supplied with the HSF).
However...

Probs w Core 2 Duo 6600 on P5B by
Andreas Schwartmann
On my Asus P5B (no deluxe) board I cannot get my E6600 any higher than
2900 MHz (323 x 9).
If I increase the FSB anymore, the system won't even post.
Vcore is at 1.275 but even increasing it to 1.5 won't help.
I also adjust my memory (Kingston PC 800) not to run over 800 MHz.
Any idea what I...

Problem with P5B and Q6600 CPU by
Andreas Schwartmann[_2_]
Hi,
today I replaced my old Core2Duo E6600 with a new quad core Q6600 CPU
(B3 stepping).
After switching CPUs, I find, that my P5B board (with BIOS 1604) does
not accept my manuel vcore settings anymore. Whatever I set it to, it
will stay at 1.2 v.

Fan Controller and Fan causes floppy drive failure by
Andrew Diamond
My thesis, which will sound nutty, is the following: The use of my Vantec
Fan Controller to turn down the speed of my two intake 80mm case fans causes
my floppy drive to fail. I will defend this below but now for the setup,
pathology, and history.
Setup:
I recently installed a Vantec Silver...

Hmmm.... 1000 HT * 3 Opty? by
[email protected]
Seeing that out-of-stock $150 Opteron 165 on NewEgg got me thinking (I
havn't bought one -- yet)....
To OC an Opty, you need to keep the HT=1000 ( FSB * MULTI 1001 ).
This means you can clock 5 * 200, 4 * 250, 3 * 333.... so I am
guessing you can also clock 2 * 500 or even 1 * 1000. Has...

Abit IL9 vs IB9 -- which to choose? by
[email protected]
Two budget-priced Abit LGA775 mobos, two sets of problems:
IL9 -- $85 ($75 after mail-in rebate) -- +Stable -Unoverclockable TWO
PCI-Ex16 (although one is really x4)
The IL-9 PRO has just about every port (even LPT and COM) plus plenty
of PCI-Express; unfortunatly, its BIOS currently doesn't...
