pg[_2_]
Hello again !!
First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to all the kind
folks who replied to my message yesterday.
I've fiddling with my ScanMaker 3600 and has yet to produce result.
Now the thing is, SW5 just doesn't "see" the scanner at all, although

Canon LiDE 25 & LiDE 70 by
Talal Itani
My old HP scanner finally quit all the way. So I went to Newegg, and I
found two really inexpensive scanners: Canon LiDE 25 is for $44.77, Canon
LiDE 70 is for $89.88. I will not be scanning any photographs, since I have
a digital camera. Yet every once in a while I scan a document. These...

Minolta 5400 problems by
Pygmi
I have Minolta DiMage 5400 and I'm quite pleased with it,
EXCEPT for the two things:
1. Major problems scanning blue sky from color slide (8 bit scans).
No problems for example with black, which was my major concern.
Haven't really done anything else than slide scans so far...
2. Speed, which...

A good slide / flim scanner ?? by
Gary Warner
Can anyone reccoment a good slide/film scanner? This is for personal
use of transfering our slides to digital. I have a "PrimeFilm 1800u" but
all the scans of the slides come out way too dark. I can see that the
slide is not that dark. I've played with all the settings and they don't
seem to...

Canon 5000f ok? by
Terry McDanel
It seems to be common currency that cheap negative scanners are not
adequate but i was pretty surprised at how cheap the Canon scanners
are. The 5000f is only about $130 and does not require and additional
adapter for 35 mm negatives or slides.
It is 2400 x 4800 dpi with 9600 x 9600 dpi...

Please help me decide on scanning software by
Paula SIms
Hello all,
First of all, thank you so much for all your help in the past. As I have
written before, I am in the process of scanning a great deal of pictures
(thousands, and no, I don't have the negatives) and need to put them in
digital photo albums.
I am looking for software that will allow me to...

new jpeg2000 format? by
Bob Smith
I have been digitally archiving our old family pics (mostly slides) using a
scanner. I have recently been experimenting with the new jpeg 2000 format
which is quite exiting. the problem I am having is when I save an image in
jpeg2k I can't seem to open it in any common applications such as IE6 etc....

48 bit vs. 32 bit by
Bob Smith
Is there truly any noticeable difference between the 2 different color bits
when printing on a photo printer? both bits seem to represent millions of
colors. The only difference is in the file sizes. If one was scanning
slides/photos what would be the best choice....48 bit at a lower resolution
or...

Scanning Matte finish photos.....question by
Baldy
I've notice a problem in many scans of photos with the matte finish
instead of a glossy finish. The resultant scan looks like it has a
heavy "pebble" finish, much more pronounced than the original matte
finish. I assume this is caused by the reflected light of the scanner
bouncing off the high and...

UMAX Astra 610P: "Please unlock scanner" by
Ampersand
I have a huge problem that can't seem to be solved: I have a UMAX Astra 610P
scanner (without a power switch), and every time I try to do something
(scan, preview...), the lamp barely moves and I get one of the following
messages: "Error 00000000h", or "Please unlock scanner". Thing is, my
scanner...

Scanner reccommendation, please by
Stan (the Man)
I currently own a ScanJet 4C. When I bought it, I was running Win98 and
had to install a scsi card in order to install and use it. I'm now
running XP Home and it's my understanding that in order to use my 4C I'd
have to employ some kind of workaround. I don't care to do that.
So, first, can anyone...

Calibrating a Mirascan - Acer 640BT by
Mark BR
I've got hold of an old Acer (Benq) 640BT scanner with the transparency and
Negative scanning facility.
But no templates for the negatives and slides.
It seems there is something in the templates that is used for calibration.
Anyone got this model and can tell me what the heck is used - is it a...

Ways to scan and OCR notes taken in books (digital dump of "highlights") ? by
C_K
Hello,
I'm guessing this question has come up before, but I couldn't find
anything definitieve in terms of a yes or no on it --
I'm interested in getting text files of just parts of textbooks that
I'm interested in -- instead of just highlighting the textbook,
getting a digital dump of the text...

cannibalizing a flatbed for its linear array by
Zierot
I have an application for a color linear array like those found in CCD
types of flatbed scanners. A commercially available camera with a linear
array costs over $1000. I have a few old flatbeds and can buy a very
good new one for less than $200. For this reason, I am interesting in
"harvesting" the...

LS 2000/Vue Scan Halo and low contrast??? by
Mark Durrenberger
Hi,
I seem to be having difficulty with a particular slide that is showing a
"halo" along a boundary between dark (almost black) and bright gold - the
gold is causing a halo (I've looked at the slide with a loupe and I can't
see a halo)
Also, the contrast seems to be lower than the actual slide...

1 scanner, 2 computers by
Millybags
Hi,
I have two computers and a Canon 5000F. I know that I can't share the
scanner like I can the printer, but would a solution be to get a 4-1 USB
hub, connect the scanner to the 1 port and connect the computers to the
other ports, making sure that the software/driver is on both computers? ...

What DPI scan = paper print? by
Alfredo
So I want to scan some precious family photos from the 30s up to the
2000s.
I would like to preserve all the detail that is in the original print,
in the scan.
Question is, at what DPI should I scan these prints so as to preserve
all the detail in the precious, irreplaceable original pix?
Are...
