Marginal OEM Power Supply by
Robert Myers
Last summer I bought a box from a very big OEM at a good price.
The box would not boot on delivery because the RAM had been installed
incorrectly, so it's clear that, if the box was tested, it was tested
before the RAM was installed, and now I'm wondering at what stage of
assembly the boxes are...

Intel CPU prices going up? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Intel's processor prices have been going up recently, rather than down.
They're blaming it on production problems. Intel has been well known to
be stuck on the 14nm node for a while now. Instead of going towards 10nm
they just keep incrementing their 14nm with plus signs, what are they up
to...

CW417404 memory chips by
[email protected]
I have 2x 16MB (capacity confirmed on a P1 board) memory modules with these chips. Each has 16 pieces.
So one chip would be 1Mx4bit. The module itself is clearly marked as EDO.

any ideas how i can remove a suspected virus from the BIOS of a 486 pc?

Viruses don't get into the BIOS. There's no way to remove something that
cannot happen in the first place.

a TPM chip and has a classic BIOS option ?
Windows XP/Debian stable 32 bit
I'm using an ASUS K8V-MX, does everything I need, but is a bit
slow on video processing .... and some of the capacitors look a bit

Prefer Asus .... easier to find where I live.

How many x86 instructions? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
I was asked this question recently, and I just realized that I really
don't know the answer to this. I may have known at one time, but I don't
anymore, as things have moved on since I last used to do assembly
programming. How many instructions are there in modern x86 processors?
These days it...

Powerline Ethernet, inconsistent performance by

Okay, here's an update on the situation. I pulled the Powerline adapter

gone from 5Mbps back upto over 100Mbps again! Just had to reposition the
