Q: Tyan S1830S & PIII 1GHz CPU by
John Turco
Hello,
On my Tyan S1830S "Tsunami" (a venerable AT mainboard, with AMI BIOS
V2.00.02), I recently replaced an Intel Pentium III 600E processor (Slot
1) with a PIII 1GHz (FCPGA Socket 370, product number RB80526PY001256).
Each of these "Coppermine" chips is of the 100MHz FSB variety, which is
the...

Looking for brief explanation of evolution of P4 cpu line by
CPU Guy
I'm trying to figure out what socket-478 pentiums (or celerons) are
still being made by Intel (and hence are still "in the channel").
I'm also trying to figure out which socket 478 pentiums are NOT
compatible with some older socket 478 motherboards (by older I mean
motherboards made in 2002 and...

my Intel 875pbz motherboard. According to the website this board should
support the chip if the motherboard bios is at 20 or better. I have updated
the bios to 33 but everytime I put the chip in and turn on the main...

developments among chipset makers in both the Intel and AMD camps.
Explains what the most current models are and what their latest
features are. I found it a little difficult to keep track of all of the
latest product developments of...

Stupid Mistake! by
Homer Simpson
There I was trying to "multi-task" like an idiot and flashed a D845PT with
the wrong BIOS. Now I cannot even boot to a floppy. Is there any way out

Thanks,

SR449BX 2 CDs -- Cannot boot from CD, why??? by
OSIRIS
I have a P3 on a SR440BX mobo with a CD-ROM and a CD-RW plus a couple of IDE
hard drives. I can boot from a floppy or from the firs Hard Drive, but not from
either CD. The BIOS has the option to set booting from "ATAPI CD" but does not
let me pick which one so it does not boot .
I'm trying to...

Intel retention mechanism base , socket 478, needed by
Ann
Purchased an OEM Intel mobo from what I thought was a reputable online
merchant. They neglected to mention that rather than being the mobo
pictured on their website (and described in the manual I had downloaded
from the Intel website), the mobo they shipped has no RM base.
I would like to...

x86 extensions and their compatibility? by

Hi all,
I have been seeing items in articles that have prompted
several questions about the differences between AMD's
x86 extensions and Intel's x86 extensions.
Will AMD Opterons and Intel EM64T enabled chips
run the EXACT same op code set?
If there is a difference between the two then software

What does BTX version mean? by
Clark
I was looking at the 830 D and noticed a boxed processor with the
FT extension is about $40 more that the FN one. I read what BTX
means, but I don't understand how it might effect my desktop machine
capabilities.
Thanks,
Clark
