Can I play free offer cd games without Steam account
Hay,
If you know ATI's FREE Half-Life 2 offer which come with some ATI graphics cards please read this. I have tried get answer from Steam to this questions but it seems that no one want answer for me. So I ask from this group. I have get the picture that I need internet connection and launch Steam application to play ATI'S offer games on cd. Or at least Valve Premier Pack's games. Do I have to be on internet connection all the time I play or every time I start to paly or how? But what I have to do with Steam application? Can I play ATI'S offer games Valve Premier Pack and Half-Life 2 without logging in to Steam? And does it enough that I have the ATI Half-Life 2 coupon and activation key on it? Is all what I need to play these games the activation key? I am interested of this because I have logged in to Steam some months again and I used the Half-Life 2 activation key to download Valve Premier Pack games. But I felt it was too slow with 56Kb modem and I throw away my password. A few days ago I tried login with new account but now I can't use the Half-Life 2 activation key because it can be used only with one account. So in my case that one was my old account which password I can't remember. Can I play offer cd's games(Valve Premier Pack, Half-Life 2) if I have this kind of problem? I hope someone will answer that I don't order those cd's for nothing. Thank you |

I think, the free games offer (HL, Opposing Force, CounterStrike) only extend to Steam. The CD you'll get from ATI will most likely contain HL2 alone. I'd just like to add to this, that the Free games offer with the HL2 voucher expires on the day of HL2's release. Since when the vouchers were published, the game was on course to be released on sept 30th 2003, and the game was delayed, valve took the decision to offer all their other games for free over Steam til HL2's release... Although, since HL1, DoD, TFC, etc are all due to be ported to source for HL2 owners anyway, i'm sure it won't be that much of a disappointment :-) -- Ben Cottrell AKA Bench Disclaimer: This post may contain explicit depictions of things which are "real". this kind of problem? You have to get your Steam account sorted out. Once you have used the activation key, it won't let you use the same key from a different account. So can I even play the free Half-Life 2 cd? |

You can ask Valve to mail you the password at the email you registered
with Steam. If you don't have that email account either, it'll get very tricky as Valve will have to reset keys for your Steam account. They are notoriously slow in doing that. Who I should contact? I have tried contact by email to and I have used ASK A QUESTION FORM but I haven't get any answer. So do anyone have suggestions? And if I have to reset my cd-key how long it will propably take and what would it cost? Can I play free Half-Life 2 CD. Do I need internet connection and Steam for that? Thank you |

Do you have access to the email account you used to establish the Steam account? If yes, then click on 'Retrieve a lost account' in the login screen and the password will be mailed to that particular email address. If no, then you get into this whole 'CD key resetting' business. Try http://www.steampowered.com. Click 'Support' and then 'Find Answers'. Resetting procedure is listed in "Answer 3". And if I have to reset my cd-key how long it will propably take and what would it cost? See above. Can I play free Half-Life 2 CD. Do I need internet connection and Steam for that? If you don't want to patch the game, you should be able to play HL2 CD without Steam. Question is, how stable will HL2 be out of the box without any patches. -- Noman |
