Epson R300 compatible cartridge error message
I've just bought a complete set of Jet Tec compatible cartridges for my
Epson R300. They work beautifully and at a quarter of the price of the original Epson cartridges they seem very good value. One problem though - every time I print anything Epson Print Monitor pops up an error message saying "The installed ink cartridges differ from the original EPSON ink cartridges... Do you want to continue?". I've set the printer to not display error messages but this one still comes up. As it happens every time it gets a little annoying. Is there a way of getting this to stop? I've got a feeling that there isn't and it's just Epson's way of making you buy their cartridges, but if this is the case it will actually just persuade me not to buy their printers! Cheers Andy C |

Cheers Andy C This is completely unusual - as that message is set to appear only when the cartridges are first installed and primed. There is the possibility that one set of pins maybe - at the back of the cartridge seat housing - is not making correct contact with the cartridge chip ?? Other than that have you tried reinstalling the drivers. The contact pins are quite delicate and brittle, made from a hardened contact point so it is wise if and when you clean them to only stroke gently down with a cotton bud. The cartridge not present message for instance does appear when the pins are dirty with ink and the drivers go around in a seemingly never ending loop. But if you are using a MAC it may not be that simple. Seems like Epson are doing this on all the latest range of printers. Martin |

(Cyan) Nothing has solved the problem. It really looks to me as though this is the way Epson intended it to be. Andy C |

The problem with having six separate ink tanks is that there's always one that's running out of ink... Cheers Andy C |

I also have an older CX3200 and the message only appears once on the first print out. Fortunately the CX6400 tells you how much ink is remaining in the LCD panel on the front of the printer. Martin |

Martin The R300 also displays the ink levels on the front, and I have now removed Status Monitor and all is working fine. Actually it's better than before as it starts printing noticeably quicker. I have an RX500 which did exactly the same thing.
I even got a chip resetter and swapped the Epson chips to the compatible cartridges.....That got rid of the message, and I got another lot of printing out of the "empty" Epson cartridges. Until it stopped recognising the chips at all because I had (accidentally) moved one of the contacts in the machine. They actually slide up and down! I tried all the recommended things, getting latest drivers etc.. Even complained to the Office of Fair Trading (UK), that was a waste of time! Then one morning, after a couple of weeks, the message wasn't there and doesn't appear even when installing new compatible cartridges. So no more irritating messages, and I have no idea why it went away Nil desperandum Peter |
