[OT] open up logitech z340 sub - how ?

Hi all,

I have a logitech z-340 speaker set and I want to get the grille off the front
of the sub so I can take the speaker out and hopefully get at the power
transformer inside (assuming it's hidden as it's not mounted on the PCB and the
AC in wires go all the way inside the box and not to the board).

The reason I want to get at the transformer is simple... I'm moving to Canada in
a few weeks from Australia, and the speakers only accept 220V not 110V.. and I
thought rather than waste money on an expensive step-up transformer (which
nobody even sells here !), I'd simply replace the transformer in the speaker
power supply for $20 - $30..

I can unscrew the panel on the rear (with volume, AC in, etc) which is attached
to the PCB, but I can only lift it out about half an inch coz of the cord on the
AC jack and also what I'm guessing arespeaker wires to the sub (thin flat white
wires going into the middle of the box somewhere).

I need to remove the grille from the front so I can unscrew the sub itself, but
I don't know how.. (prying with a screwdriver just leaves a mark in the
plastic).. is it glued on or what ?

Im not sure that would be all that worth it.
Ive seen it on Amazon for $36.
Actually its being phased out since its an older model and its only
2.1. I got my 640z for $49 on sale ages ago and its been on sale
several times.

Add in the hassle of packing it.
Why dont you sell it for $10-15 ?
Add $30 when you get to Canada and get some new speakers.

I would expect that the rear panel only has a small I/O PCB,
that the ribbon cables connect back to the main PCB further
inside. You don't mention specifically that the ribbon
cables are too short, and hopefull they aren't because if
they're long enough you can pop off the AC cord's mounting
plug and it should then slip out the rear panel... not
completely out but enough to get the panel back more than a
1/2 inch.

I could be wrong but would suspect the entire front bezel,
the black grill and silver rim, have plastic studs moulded
into the silver part, and that screws go in through the rear
fastening the speaker to the cabinet and grill. If that's
the case then you need get in through the rear. Again I
might be wrong there, I don't have those speakers and can't
tell if the speaker is put in through the front or rear of
the cabinet.

John Smith was right though, it's probably not worth the
hassle as a replacement transformer plus the time spent plus
proceeds from selling them cheap, might exceed the cost of a
replacement set of speakers. In the US they can be had for
$25 delivered, though I dont' know about Canada.
