Wrong group...I know...
I know this is the Dell group but this is the most helpful group I
lurk in, so here goes.. I have an HP XV976. I am trying to hook up an HP photoprinter 7960 to it. every time I get to then point of making this the 'default' printer, my computer shuts down. I mean just like the power cord is pulled, no shut down sequence, Then it goes through the disk diagnostic sequence because of the way it shut down. Uninstalled and re-installed the software the third time. No difference. One time I installed software whithout connecting the printer untill software was fully installed, when I plugged in the printer (USB cord) the computer immediately crashed. (Installed this printer on a laptop with no problem) Have I got a 'bug'? Any help/suggestions appreciated. Steve |

disconnect printer.
uninstall printer stuff. purge all IE files, cookies. cleanup all temp files in temp directories (cuts down on scan times and gets a few bytes back!) get latest virus update and scan entire system get latest Adaware software & reference files and scan entire system (remove everything it finds) get latest Spybot software and files and scan entire system (remove everything it finds) scan disk for integrity run defrag reinstall printer software and drivers plug printer in. if it still crashes post a list of all the programs running on your system. Also if you're trying the usb ports in the rear, have you tried the ports in
the front? Also, have you successfully used the usb ports with other usb equipment? Paul "chilibean" wrote in message ... BTW what OS you running? What version of USB is the system & printer? Well, you know that the printer is OK if it works on the laptop. This reduces
the possible causes to faulty XV976 hardware and (what else?) Windows, whatever release you are running. I'm also assuming that the power source for computer, monitor, and printer is adequate, but that may be a bad assumption. Sometimes a power-starved computer reboots itself. Connect up a laser printer on the same electricity circuit as a computer, and the computer may well reboot as soon as the laser printer cycles up... Ben Myers On Fri, 31 Dec 2004 11:35:53 GMT, S. R.
