Computer died - Abit IC7-G

Hello,

I installed a new IC7-G about 6 weeks ago and it's been running fine.

Last night I was working on my pc and it just powered down on its own,
as if the power cord had been pulled. No warning, no bluescreen, just
immediate power down. Not very nice.

I tried powering back up, but nothing happened, no fans, no POST beeps,
no front panel power light, nothing.

I haven't overclocked anything and cpu, power supply, drives etc were
only warm.

After checking my power cord, supply etc, I turned it on again and the
fans, and front panel power light came on for about 3/4 of a second, and
then the machine when down again. No fans, no sign of life.

I again confirmed that I had power to the board, took the cover off and
confirmed that the green LED on the board was on. I powered the power
supply on/off and confirmed the green board LED went on/off.

I then unplugged all boards harddrives, USB devices and tried to power
up, nothing.

I reset the BIOS, nothing.

The power supply is brand new ( ATEC phantom 350).

Would a dead CPU cause this behavior?

It's a 3.0 GHZ P4, about 2 years old.

I suspect the CPU has croaked but would like a second opinion.

Try another power supply, like a quality Antec True Power. It doesn't
take much to light up a led and that led only shows that you have
+5VSB.

Both motherboard power connectors connected?

Yep, it was the PS.
I replaced it and the machine came to life.

The Antec Phantom 350 that died was not a cheap PS (pricewise anyway) and
was only 3-4 months old.
