Default ATI Driver & DVD Issue Update

Well I discovered what the problem was, at least I think I did.

I had uninstalled WinDVD and decided just to use Windows Media Player to
watch DVD's. Since it's only a notebook and I don't have 5.1 or 6.1
speakers connected to it why bother with paying 50 or 60 dollars for high
quality DVD software? So I bought a DVD encoding playback kit online to
enable WM9 to play DVD's as well as rip music CD's, the combo pack was
19.99, I bought this gosh several months ago now.

Anyways I got rid of WinDVD a few weeks ago but really hadn't started
watching DVD's on my notebook until just in the past few days. I noticed
where some DVD's would play fine, while others would cause the "blue screen
of death", strange.

So after ruling certain things out, I wondered if I would have this same
problem if I reinstalled WinDVD and played my DVD's with it, instead of WM9.
Sure enough, that solved the problem! Every single DVD now plays without
crashing my system. So I ditched the DVD driver pack and I'm only using
WinDVD now to play DVD's.

I guess I should ask for my money back from Sonic Solutions because that was
a waste of 20 bucks.

BTW, do I really need to upgrade my current copy of WinDVD 4.0 Plus to
WinDVD 5.0? I mean is it really worth it when your using a notebook? I
don't think so but I thought I would ask.

That would be awfully inconvenient to lug around on the airplane to watch
DVD's during long flights!
