Got rid of the password but still unable to enter the bios. Tried F10 as
machine booting up also tried with F10 pressed and then powered up. Any
ideas?
Bruce.

The original hard drive had a diagnostic partition which contained
the BIOS setup routine. If you have a replacement hard drive, you
will have to download the floppy-disk based setup from
Hewlett-Packard. Try this link and select your machine from the
dropdown list:
http://www.hp.com/country/us/eng/support.htm?cc=us

or search using the name of the laptop.
