On booting up my 'puter (Iconnect 1170 Me) I had notices that

S.M.A.R.T. is
disabled but can be enabled.

My question is what does this exactly do to the machine and will it

be of
any benefit on enabling it.

Thanks for reading this.

David Francis

Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) hard drive
and the site that can tell you more is he
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/.../smartdrv.mspx

Essentially it was designed to monitor your hard drive as to when
FAILURE can occur. Not stop the failure. It is like another system
monitor but for your hard disks.

Also I do not have mine on. And I see no bad results.

I hope that helped?

I had it enabled on my older PC's, and it is auto enabled on all new
machines.
I found it usefull when one of my disks failed, as athe manufacturer is more
willing to return if they know that you know what you are on about
