CD-R /DVD -R Question. Will they Play Together?
I have a Lite ON CDR drive set to master with a Lite On DVD ROM drive
set to slave on an IDE chain and the other IDE chain has my 2 Hard drives (Master/Slave). If I get a DVD+/- R drive where will I put it. Can it be the Slave with the CDR drive as Master (Replacing the crappy DVD ROM) or does it HAVE to be the master? What gives? Andrew |

I have it set to master with the DVD reader as master and a Liteon as a master but Ive had it the other way around too - DVD slaved to Liteon master CDR burner and my NEC dvd burner worked fine. |

Andrew The *ONLY* time this matters if you are accessing both drives at the same time. For example, Sec Master = CD-RW drive, Sec Slave = DVD±RW drive. You CANNOT burn 2 copies of a CD at the same time with this setup. However, Sec Master = CD-RW, Pri Slave = DVD±RW -- now you can burn 2 copies of a CD at the same time. And it isn't just limited to 2 copies of the same disc, you can burn a DVD on the DVD±RW and a CD on the CD-RW. Heck, you can burn some compilation disc that is 2 CDs long at the same time, burning disc 1 on the CD-RW and disc 2 on the DVD±RW (or vice versa!). If you only have 1 hard drive, then I suggest this: Pri Master = HD Pri Slave = DVD±RW Sec Master = CD-RW Sec Slave = DVD-ROM Here you can write 2 discs at the same time, and everything should be fine. If you want, you could flip flop the DVD±RW & CD-RW, so that you could copy on-the-fly from the DVD-ROM - CD-RW (if you leave it like I suggest, then you can copy on-the-fly from the DVD±RW - CD-RW and also DVD-ROM - DVD±RW (but not the two at the same time; 4 discs, 3 drives, something doesn't jive)). There's no real advantage in either setup, since you can always copy on the fly from something to something, I guess it depends on what drive reads discs with protection the best (if you're into that sort of copying). Otherwise, I'd do the above, and if the DVD±RW makes some weird problems, just flip the burners. |
