Default p3 & abit sl6

Hi

I have an old Abit SL6 sock370 with a 1gig P3 256 133. I've just bought a
rocketraid 1520 s-ata card, 2 s-ata baracudas & an Asus V9520/TV GeForceFX.
These are for when I scrape the ££ together to get a new 533 board and a
3gig HT P4.

I'm a bit thick.

I want to use these HDs and graphics meantime with my abit board until I get
my new board, can anyone tell me if there will be any issues, such as
voltage issues with the graphics card - I have read that, despite being an
8x card, it is backwards compatible to AGP 2 (4x) so this should be ok
right?

I am keen to try overclocking my memory - is this a bad idea? - can anyone
point me in the direction of a idiots guide to doing this?

Also, the abit is supposed to take 512mb ram - I have never managed to get
it to boot with any two matching sticks, therefore, it will only go up to
448 with 64 + 128 + 256 at 133mhz. Does the 512 in the manual and on the
abit website refer to pc100? or might I have to do something in the bios?

Is it possible to clock the CPU beyond 1gig, given that this is the max cpu
speed supported? If so, again, can someone point out an idiot's guide?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Andy

The only thing I can tell you about the Video, is just try it.
If the board don't want to take it, you will either not get a post.
(Beep) Or you'll get a Post with no Video.

Overclocking, best thing I can tell you here is. Learn your motherboard,
find out how to change things.
: (Clock Speed and such, and it's good to know how far you can
turn up your vcore before you go to far. If you do, the best thing is to see
a blue screen.
I'd rather see a blue screen with en older puter/(CPU) then to hear the
CPU Go POP!!!
The only other thing here is, search the net. Find out how other people
have done it, then try it.

Also, the abit is supposed to take 512mb ram - I have never managed to get
it to boot with any two matching sticks, therefore, it will only go up to

As for ram, Same thing. learn your Motherboard, find out what all you can
put on it.

cpu
speed supported? If so, again, can someone point out an idiot's guide?

I don't know this board, but I'd have to say you should be able to get 100
or more extra then that.
You really just have to play around for a while to see what works.
Some boards are not all that hard. This one is a Gigabyte Titan agp 8x the
works really.
Support for both 533 Mhz Fsb and 800 Mhz Fsb, this board has so much on
it, it's not funny.
I could run this thing without a Video Card or Sound Card Added.
The board has both. And how about 6 USB's + 2 front of case, for an = of
8
1394 = 4 One onboard, one on the Audigy 2. One on the Audigy 2 that needs a
cabe. And one on the Motherboard that also needs a cable.
For a total of 4 1394 FireWire Ports.
It's got a lot. And my main Chip is a P4 2.4Ghz Running @ 2.89
I was encoding something while I wrote this, but I got up to 52c and want
to try to get that down a little. And I can, I've got a water cooler I'm
soon going
To put on here. I took it off the old board, and it's soon time to try it
out on the new one.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Truly horrible advice.

Plug a 1.5v-only video card into a 3.3v AGP slot and you WILL
wind up with a fried motherboard, card, or possibly both. Vendors
are supposed to install keyed AGP slots on their motherboards to
prevent this from happening, but not all of them do.

Ah, Opps. Very bad.
I must have had some TCH still in my system, or the fact I have not slept
right in the past 4 days, Hmm?
Maybe both.
