Default HP psc 2175 scan button won't work

Hello people =D

I just got a HP psc 2175 all in one. When I press the scan buton, nothing
happens, then I get a message saying
the printer isn't connected even though both power cord and USB cable are
plugges in.

When I right click on the scanner icon for the psc 2175, and then choose
properties, everything is grayed out. I can't change a freakin thing.

The properties has a section that allows me to change what action the scan
button will do. One option is to set the scan button to scan with the
scanner software.

It is current set on an option that says 'take no action'. This obviously
isn't what I want it set to, but since everythin is grayed out, I can't
assign a different action to the scan button.

Does anyone know how I can get the scanner properties to let me change the
action for the scan button?

If you want to email me a reply, I am at:

Thanks much if you can help on this.
