Default 505 laptop

Our friend has a M505 with integrated wireless LAN. The built in
wireless LAN seemed to be buggy at first, then worked for many months,
now seems to have failed. I have no problem putting in an external card
and connecting to the network and internet, but the built in WLAN can't
even see the router, even with SSID broadcast on. Is there any way to
test the wireless card to know for sure if it has failed? I updated to
the latest driver for this intel WLAN 2100B dated 1/2004, but no change
in function...still doesn't work.

Thanks for any advice
