And yes, 2d is better then nvidia

I keep hearing this. In what way is it "better"?

DVD playback. "Avivo" processing. Cleaner, quieter, sharper,
better.
Especially on bigger displays.

Yep, the usual propaganda. I was hoping that you had actually come up
with something that wasn't out of date five years ago.

Not only is the 2d better, the 3800 series has HDCP key encryption
holding capability so those Blue-Ray and HD-DVD's can be played,
(with the appropriate player software,) as well as on-board audio
mixing for the signal being sent to the HDCP TeleVisions. Future
stuff for the media-centered systems.

So when was HDCP removed from nvidia boards?

Personally, I hate all this DRM and hope I will never have to use
this
capability of this board.

That would have been a valid concern maybe five years ago but it isn't
anymore. 2D quality on my Nvidia card is the same as the quality i had
with ATI X800XL and 9800pro. I have 9600XT in another computer right now
and its 2D quality is no better either.

The 3870 is DX10.1 certified, the 8800 series is not. It runs cooler, draws
less power, and is a generation ahead of the 8800 series.

And a generation slower. If you think DX10.1 makes a big diff then you
are out to lunch. There is hardly any difference between temps and power
consumption too.

BTW, new 8800GTS to be released in a week or so will have even less heat
and power consumption than 3870/8800GT and is faster than 8800GT.
Tweaktown has a review if you don't believe me.

My goodness, aren't you the angry one, John! I bought a 3870 because it's
quieter and more efficient than that pig of a 2900 I had, and it performs
similarly. There will always be someone who has something negative to say
about anything you buy, especially in PC components. If it's better than
your old card, and it's what you fancy this Christmas, then buy it,
doomsayers be damned.
