Moble Piii 500mz: How Much RAM

How much ram can a Moble Piii 500mz 'use'.
I'm looking at an Old Tablet and the makers specs say 256mb. But I
wonder if I can find the right kind of ram at 512mb or even 1gb would
the computer actually use it, or would it just be a waste?
Is it dependent upon the Chipset?

The cpu can use 4GB, most of the chipsets are limited to 512MB or 1GB,
though.

Yes. On the chipset (which decides what size of memory modules can be
used), together with the number of memory slots, and it also depends on
the BIOS.
