1600 x 900 resolution on Optiplex GX520 w/onboard Intel G45
New to this forum and never had a
problem with our various Dells until this one -- here's the issue: Is there any way to get 1600 x 900 with the onboard Intel video of this model? Intel claims to have a driver that can do this, but it won't install, claims the system requirements weren't met even though the box has 2GB of RAM and a fuktonne of disk space. Our old tube monitors are beginning to fail and it seems all the modern LCD models want to see their native resolution, which neither Dell's nor Windows Update's drivers list as available, even though Intel's utility confirms the monitor can do it. The closest I can get is an old driver (probably from the WinXP CD) that can do 1440 x 900 -- the newest one from Windows Update won't even do that. Anyone run into this? Am I as screwed as it seems I am? Is adding a video card my only way out? Several of our GX520s already have two PCI cards installed, so I'd like to avoid that if possible. Thanks in advance! |

Ben Myers WinXP and yes -- neither of the available generic Intel drivers will install as per my original post, only the old ones from Dell and from Windows update work -- and neither lists the resolution I need after they've been installed. Frustrating.... |

Frustrating.... Long shot here, because you probably already did this, but... When you say "...neither lists the resolution...", do you mean under "List All Modes" in the Adapter tab? If yes, then: Click on the Monitor tab, and uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" and read the caution, then click Apply, OK, then go back to the Adapter tab and see if additional resolutions are revealed. I once had to do this when all indications were that the new video card would drive my LCD monitor at the desired resolution, but the resolution wasn't appearing under List All Modes. I ignored the caution in the Monitor tab, and haven't had any problems. Good luck. |
