Default canon scanner

Cannon CanoScan LIDE 500F
Win XP Home SP2
2gig Ram
2.46ghz Pentium

Problem: When viewing a scanned image there is a 25mm wide grey/black line
in the middle from one end of the scanned image to the other.
After a further 4 scans the unit failed to operate and a prompt appeared
{please slide the lock button to the unlock position and disconnect and
reconnect the USB cable to restart}
With no success, the unit is connected and working ok according to the
device manager and when unplugged the device disappears so there is no
problem with the cable or software as I've even tried reinstalling it.
With kind regards

With kind regards From WillofAustralia
