Default Dell C610 modem - dead -

The modem in our Dell C610 WinXP appears to be dead.
It was there and working for the past year or so,
and now does not appear in any of the device listings.
I've tried re-installing, same with the drivers,
nothing seems to find it.
This is the very small modem board that fits
underneath in the panel area for memory.
I only used it about a year ago - for some travel,
as moslty the laptop is used via WiFi.

I didn't have another laptop to test,
so I acquired another special modem to install.
I did that, and still nothing.
Maybe it is the tiny power plug, or the micro socket ?

Anyone else have the modem just poof go away ?

if youve tried another modem known to be good in it and it still not showing
and youve reinstalled the drivers then its a fault on the systemboard and
unless you can repair down to componant level then you need a nother board
to double check this you could always try your modem in another machine if
possible and if it works in that then its definatly your systeboard
