Default NetAPP ASIS De-Duplication for unstructured data

Hi out there, hope you are all having a good weekend!

So a quick question for you all - has anyone completed a large
deployment of netapp files for an "archive tier of data" for CIFS type
evironment (and unstructured data) - if so, i would like some idea of
the level of de-duplication / capacity save you are getting.

Any comments would be really useful

Cheers,

B

It doesn't matter how it's used or what protocol, it only matters how
many blocks you have in common on the same aggregate.

We've run some tests and some aggregates get about 20%, others around
65%.

You should contact your rep and see if they have a way of giving you
some real stats on your data.

de-duplication work on common block on same aggregate and thats why
its most suitable for backup storage where we need multiple version
and lots of common blocks happen.
