Default Symcli Help

Hi,
Does anyone know how to list unused standard devices via a symcli command.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by unused standard devices... Can you elaborate?
What operating system are you interested in?

It depends on the interpretation of unused standards. Unused could be
2-Way-Mir or RDF1/RDF2 NOT mapped to a director...or...STD devices
mapped but not given access by a HBA (assuming fabric) by VolumeLogix
(assuming lun masking)

To check for devices not mapped to a front end director use the
following: (assuming Windows 2k...for Unix use GREP)

symdev -sid symm number -noport list | find "2-Way-Mir"
symdev -sid symm number -noport list | find "RDF1"

To list the VCM Database (VolumeLogix)

symmaskdb -sid symm number list database

To find out if a mapped device is given access by VolumeLogix

symmaskdb -sid symm number -dev device number list assignment

...this will return either not accessible or show you the WWN that has
access.

You should also become familiar with the SYMDEV command. Using this
you can check device status (RW, NR, WD etc)

To list devices:

symdev -sid symm number list

....Note the status of the devices as you list.

Hope this helps.

Brian.
