so I know. search the web, there is a K7S5A motherboard support forum there

that stuff but in the end it is because you have a cheap motherboard.

The K7S5A has some startup issues with 'BAD CMOS' (checksum), for no good
reason, and sound not always initializing properly (even though device
manger says it's working just peachy keen), and it can be picky about
memory (not a unique situation, although both my el-cheapo dual 256Meg
PC133 SDRAM sticks and el-cheapo dual 256Meg PC2700 DDR RAM sticks worked
fine) but I've also had two, v3.1 and now Pro, with no 'lockup' or
'freezing' problems at all.

The Pro also has problems with IRQ sharing in PCI slot-1 and you might as
well consider it as not even being there.

The 'fixes' you refer to are attempts for the 'BAD CMOS' issue, for which
there is no fix known to actually work for sure.

I still have my 2 k7s5a mobos working but only with slower durons. With a
faster cpu like an 2000+ and above it will just freeze up just like the
original poster said. It will run if he lowers the speed but anything higher
and he gets problems with faster cpus. Send it back to whoever sold it to
you. I'm sure you'll find some cheap MSI motherboard to replace it

My Pro is running an XP 1800+ overclocked to 2000+ on a 143 MHz FSB
(honey-x bios), just as the v3.1 was.

Unless there is some power issue, the CPU speed should be irrelevant as
that is all internal to the CPU. The motherboard sees nothing but the
interface (FSB).

Listen GTS,

Yes it crushes every time I set the bios to 133/133.Even when I set
the bios to 100/133.
Teh thig is not that is a cheap motherboard but thar it accepts SD and
DD Ram modules. And I now run with PC133 and not DD.But I am seriously
thinking of buing a new DD Kensington 256 Mb because on the ECS
forums that was the general solution.

I had an ECS KS5A running successfully for about a year. It finally
started giving me CHECKSUM errors. I'm not 100% certain in your
specific case that the motherboard is the ultimate culprit but it's
certainly worth considering.
That board just has too many "issues" as well documented on numerous
forums.

My ECS was running with an AMD 1500 XP which "may" be why I was able
to operate it successfully for as long as I did. I was using 256mb of
DDR and not PC133 as you are. You must have purchased the board
relatively recently as my boards' BIOS would not support an AMD XP
2400. without a BIOS upgrade.

" Is this because my RAM FSB is only 133 and not 266 "

You are using SDRAM (not DDR) which is running at 133. You would have
to have DDR in order to have a 266 rating. ( Dual Data Ram 133 x 2 =
266 )

If you want to elimate a lot of problems I would replace that board,
period. Start out with a known reliable/stable board.

Good luck!

Mainboard ECS K7S5A 266 MHZ FSB

computer locks-up completly nothing whorks but the terstrt button.
Is this because my RAM FSB is only 133 and not 266
My computer works whitouth problem if I slow the bus down to 200 FSB
and my procesor is 1800+
Please help me.

The ting is that I have this board for about 3 years now and it seems
to be in god condition. And the bios has been upgraded by me personaly
to the latest firmware version. That is why it recognises my CPU.
I found the problem: RAM (it is a very old one about 4 years) When I
set the ram frequency to 133 the computer locks up else it works just
fine.
