DVI Cables - incompatible
Hello. I noticed the thread about DVI cables and was surprise at the
perspicacity of some of the advice. Perhaps you could help me also? I bought a Dell 2405 about six months ago. I can't use the digital DVI cable. One end fits nicely in the monitor but the other end does not fit into the back of the computer (video connector?). I wonder if there is some kind of adapter to fix the problem? Perhaps my Video card is too old. (Dell Dimension 8300) I sure would like to have digital input for when I use Google Earth. Thanks. |

Ron, you need a DVI connector on your video card. Sounds like your card only supports traditional VGA. The 8300 could have come either way. It's a generic AGP card, so something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130232 Would likely be a huge step up. Even something like this would be an improvement for a whopping $40, assuming you aren't a big gamer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130008 What video card do you have now? Device manager will tell you. Tom |

My biggest concern would be whether the video card or on board video you have now will support the widescreen resolution that the monitor requires in order to perform best. Bob |
