USB Problems
I have a system that I built about a year ago and have had USB problems with
it almost from the beginning. (The system is described below.) Anytime I try and transfer groups of files totaling more than 1 or 2 gigs through a USB port to an outside drive (of any sort) the system locks up. If I keep the total under that value and do it piecemeal, the system eventually locks up after several batches. When I say "locks up" I mean I have to cold boot to bring it back up. Another symptom is that when using Explorer to move files around, the system will often not let me access, i.e., delete or rename, a directory even though it's no longer being accessed. Only after a reboot of the system can that directory or file be disposed of properly. My question is this: is this more likely to be an XP problem or is it deeper (tied to the motherboard/bios)? In other words, how deep a rebuild do I need to do to get it working properly again? - Magnusfarce Motherboard: Abit AN8 Fatal1ty SLI Processor: Athlon 64 X2 4400+ CPU CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500 Memory: Mushkin 4x512 PC3200 DChannel Graphics: eVGA 7800GT CO, oc'd to 470 PSU: Enermax Noisetaker 600w Main HDD's: WDigital 76gb Raptor (OS) Data HDD's: WD2500 SATA-2, 250gb, 16mb cache WD 250gb IDE CD Burner: Plextor Plexwriter Premium DVD Burner: Sony DR800 Dual Layer Case: CoolerMaster CMStacker OS: XP Pro |
