Default P5GD1 - Raid Fails after driver installation

I am just upgrading my system with a new
P5GD1, P4 775 3.2Mhz CPU, 2x512 MB
memory, Asus EAX700 Graphics card and
a couple of 160G Seagate SATA drives.

Plan is to boot from the Primary Master and
have a CD on the Primary slave. The parallel
IDE (Raid) interface will be run as simple
IDE (no raid) with a couple of drives on one
channel and a second CD on the other channel.
The SATA drives to be set up as a Raid1
(mirroring) volume.

Hardware installation goes like a dream - the 775
installation is a bit scary. The BIOS sees all the drives.

Set up BIOS and created a Raid 1 volume using the
IAA Options ROM application during the boot cycle.

XP Pro (SP1) installs without problems, and SP2
installs just fine.

So now to install the drivers -

Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
Intel Application Accelerator (IAA) Drivers
Realtek Audio Drivers
Marvel Gigabit Ethernet Driver
IT8212 Driver and Application

All goes fine, however, after installing the
IT8212 Driver, XP indicates
"Raid Volume Degraded"

I have reset the devices, and recreated the Raid
volume again but after another restart it ends up
degraded. It indicates one of the SATA drives has
failed. However, there is nothing wrong with the
drives, they are working just fine when tested using
the Seagate test tool and appear to work fine in a
non raid mode under XP.

Anyone any thoughts?

Many thanks,
Roy
