NAS device for a small office - Recommendations requested

I have a 4 user peer to peer network in our office and am seeking a network
storage solution. We've tried the Snapserver 1100 and it offers the speed we
want but it's OS interferes with a data file we're storing. We also tried a
Maxtor 160gb with the Linksys Storage Adapter and it fixed the database
problem but responds very slowly when all 4 users are accessing the device.
Can anyone recommend an NAS that offers fast access and runs as a basic
drive on my network. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Need to know more about this "database problem"... what software is it?
Is it a file locking problem?

Snapserver's don't normally cause a problem, it is usually the software
settings for file locking and quite often the db software is not truely
multiuser!

The database is by Resumate a recruiting software vendor. It shares fine on
a Windows 98 box or the Maxtor drive with the Linksys adapter. I've spoken
with Snapserver and we disabled opportunistic file locking with no change in
results. Their conclusion is the Samba O/S doesn't like working in a diverse
culture i.e. Windows 98, Windows XP pro and home. Have you had any
experience with the Linksys EFG 120 NAS?

multi o/s file locking. Also what are their recommendations on multiuser
usage.

I've not used linksys adapters , but have been using snap servers for a
while.
Snap server are ok for basic file storage, but I would not trust one for a
database.

Also the mixing of 98 and XP could well be a problem. I've had file locking
problems with 98 and XP which sent away when we stopped using 98. This was
using a Sourcesafe database over Samba Filesharing on Solaris. ( different
samba to the one on snapserver ).

My best recommendation would be to share from a PC.
If you need lots of space then PC hard disks go up to 250GB +

The database vendor couldn't share new light on the subject. I think the
best thing is to move the database and other files to a cheap PC and move
away from the Snapserver. Thanks for your input and help.

(SAK) version and a Linux version. If you have unix clients it has an
embedded Samba client. It does support MAC OSX as well (NFS)

You may want to consider a newer Snap Server, one that supports iSCSI.
That would host your database as if it were on a local drive, and the
iSCSI software is free download from Microsoft. Of course, their low
end GuardianOS products start at about $3K...

FYI, I've had similar file locking problems with the Linksys EFG 120 NA
with a FoxPro based application running through 98 clients.
