Default LINUX 53.28 BAD Performance?

hi there,
i have installed the latest nVIDIA display-driver (53.28) for LINUX. first
i had problems to build some of my projects in OpenGL now the linker
works, but i have a very bad performance in OpenGL.
is it possible that the new 53.28 driver is worse than the old one thats
installed with LINUX-9??

Have them installed here and just been playing ET, can`t say if they are
better than the last but they are not worse, glxgears are about the same,
picture quality about same ( AA@2, Anisotropic@2, vsync off ).

MSI G/Force FX5600 256meg
Soltek N/F2 ultra 400
1 gig 3200
Barton 2800+ @ 2255Mhz
Suse Pro 9.0, 2.4.21-144

Sorry I don`t know what Red Hat runs like with the new Nvidias ( have not
tried Red Hat since 5.1 ), suppose it could be down to the kernel version but
should not matter, I know that the default kernel that came with Suse 9 had a
load of "features" that made it impossible to install the nforce board so I
just upgraded as soon as it was installed and voila all is happy and running
smooth here.

I take it that you are not getting any 3D accel if you cannot run Tux Racer?

give us a cut`n`paste from your /var/log/XFree86.0.log so that we can see
where the errors are occuring, also your XF86Config (-4)? would be handy.

Which Nvidias by the way?

If you uninstalled the XFree86-Mesa-libGL package before installing the
nVidia drivers, reinstall it. Tux Racer and Chromium do not like one of
the nVidia OpenGL lib substitutes. The only downside I've found so far
is that some of the GLX screen savers often don't work.

Tony.

Odd. I just upgraded from 44.96 to 53.28 and now all the screen-savers
work. :-/ Woo-hoo!

Are you sure that these are the right refresh rates for you monitor?

Vertical 56.0 - 76.0 seems a bit low to me, what are the specs of the monitor?

Try putting:-

Option "NvAGP" "1"

( or "3" might help )

underneath:-

Driver "nvidia"

You could try a default depth of 16 here and below instead of 24, might not do
anything but won`t hurt

Here is my XF86Config on a working system with an FX5600, note the diffs and
see if any help you, this XF86Config has worked flawless for the last 3
nvidias I have had with just a change to the AGP and the card id, everything
else is the same.

Have snipped the begining as it is boring stuff about fonts
