Default Presario from Walmart - S4020WM

I got one of these a few months ago, upgraded to a bigger hard drive and
more RAM, and am happy with it now. The first one I got was a lemon (the
computer), so I took it back and exchanged it. The second one (the computer)
was OK, but the monitor konked out within a few days. I sent the faulty
monitor directly to Compaq and eventually got a replacement, although it was
a big hassel.

I particularly like the AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor (2.0MHz), which is
very fast with my primary application. I'm not enthused about the XP Home op
system, in fact I hate it, but it's usable after tweaking the hell out of
it. Compaq support is mostly a waste of time, but they can help with a few
fundamental things. I've been able to figure out most other problems on my
own.

Anybody else care to comment about these S4020WM machines from Walmart?

I won't ever buy another machine with "onboard" anything in it, Compaq or
other. Because of the onboard stuff in my 5000T, I can't run Linux (Linux
won't recognize the video card) or Windows 98 (98 won't support the
Winmodem.)
