Restore on laptop
I hate to sound stupid but: I recently bought the Inspiron 6000 with MCE
2005. I need to know how to make a restore disk? I did not get a MCE DVD with it. Thanks Kevin |

you can not create a restore cd or dvd. there is a recovery partition on
your hard disk. of course this will not help you if you have a complete drive failure. you had an option to purchase a recovery dvd with the system for about $10 when you configured the system. unfortunately this option is often buried deep among numerous other options so is overlooked. but if you are still within the first 21 days of purchase you can call del and add it to your order. call customer service not tech support and ask what your options are. microsoft wants to eliminate physical media altogether and the vendors are stuck in the middle of this change. dell fortunately does offer this option. another option would be to not use windows at all. I probably overlooked the option to buy a CD (DVD). I'll call CS tomorrow.

Thanks Kevin You could always use something like Acronis True Image which would allow you to image your current setup and allow you to restore back to that point if a drive failure occurs. Works much better than having to reinstall everything from scratch. |

Doesn't the 6000 come with the option of a one-time burn of an operating
system disk? "Kevin M" wrote in message ... I hate to sound stupid but: I recently bought the Inspiron 6000 with MCE 2005. I need to know how to make a restore disk? I did not get a MCE DVD with it. Thanks Kevin |

No. That was available for a short time, but now you only have the option
to buy the CD or not. Actually, in my case, the DVD, as it is Windows MCE. "Kevin" wrote in message ... Doesn't the 6000 come with the option of a one-time burn of an operating system disk?
