AMD Phenom
I'm going to be building a computer soon, but I have some
questions.... On TigerDirect, They had (For awhile) a Phenom 9600, ever since it came out, but for some reason, it's no longer on the site. It's a brand new processor. Is there something wrong with the 9600 or some reason not to get it other than it's 0.2 Ghz slower than the 9850? |

Is there something wrong with the 9600 or some reason not to get it other than it's 0.2 Ghz slower than the 9850? 9600 = TLB (translation lookaside buffer) bug. http://techreport.com/discussions.x/13724 9600 entry http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...il.aspx?id=374 9650 = B3 stepping, fixed http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...il.aspx?id=398 AMD changed the model number of the processor, making it easier for customers to buy processors that don't have a bug. So you'd want to purchase a 9650 - stores won't tell you the stepping, which is why AMD changed the model number to indicate a fixed part. Stores advertise product based on the processor model number, so 9650 makes it easier to find a fixed one. AMD Phenom
So in essence, they had a serious problem with the Phenom processor,
earlier in the year, that affected the processor stability... SO they fixed it for the models, and then put 50 at the end to indicate it's a fixed processor and running with all L caches stable. Thanks for clearing that up. |
