Default EMC 8830 - looking for a home

Hi to the Group,

The company I work for is looking to unload an EMC 8830 with the
following specifications:
8 x 4-port Fibre Channel Directors
2 x 4GB cache cards
2 x 8GB cache cards
148 x 73GB disk drives
38 x 146GB disk drives.

Any idea of its exact value and are there any ideas as to where we
could sell it?

Thanks,

Rachel

Something else that will effect the resale value, is whether its still
under maintenance or has just come out of maintenance. EMC
recertification can be very expensive...

It will have almost no value. First, the firmware that's in the
Symmetrix is licensed only to the person paying for an active
maintenance contract. Secondly, EMC charges a *lot* to certify the
Symm before they'll take it on contract.

You may get a reseller to take some of the parts off of your hands, but
that's about it.

We got rid of an 8730 a few years back and I think we got something
like a buck a pound. It was next to worthless - a crying shame.

First, if you're purchasing a new storage array, see what the new array
manufacturer will give you for it. EMC would offer about $10,000 per TB
trade in for ANY storage the past. If you were upgrading to a DMX-3 they
may give more.

I believe the charge to bring a SYM back into support in big $$. One
customer had to pay the back maintenance fees and a recertification fee.
Came to like $80,000 all said and done.
