Default "No Signal" After Windows Loads

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello,

I recently bought a Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4200 (128MB) video card off of a
guy on Ebay.

I have been having some problems with it. First of all, the card works
flawlessly with the base VGA drivers used in Safe Mode.

However, after the Nvidia drivers are installed, and I reboot, it loads
Windows, and then instead of a logon screen, I get "No Signal" on my
monitor.

If I install the Nvidia drivers, and then try to change resolution, it
switches to the DOS resolution breifly, then I get "No Signal".

I have tried several versions of Detonator with the same result. Yes, I
have uninstalled Detonator and used Detonator R.I.P. before I tried to
reinstall.

I'm slightly suspicious, as the card seems to be a generic one. There is
a picture of it he

What do you think? Any ideas?

A friend of mine had the same problem.

It turned out to be a faulty graphics card.

"THIS CARD IS SOLD AS IS UNTESTED NO REFUNDS!!!"

Normally means it's screwed up and I pretend to not know it.

Sounds like the card is dead...

It could be your monitor. If the nVidia driver is setting the refresh
rate too high for your monitor, you'll get a blank screen. Try loading
the Detonator drivers then restart in safe mode. Set the display
properties for 800x600 at 60hz. Restart and see what you get. If you
have a picture, try slowly bumping up the refresh rate and screen
resolution until it blanks again. Good luck.

Funny, for some reason, it works perfectly under linux as long as I keep
both AGP Fast Writes and SBA off. Maybe this is what is killing it on
Windows. Can I turn off AGP Fast Writes and SBA under Windows.

This ususally is because the default resolution and refresh rate your card
picks is incompatible with your monitor. Unfortunately booting in safe mode
can't fix this, because the original mode will be reinstalled next time you
do a normal boot. You will have to manually change that in the registry.

"Of course, I always look at guys who have girlfriends. I compare myself to
them, as hard as that is, and it's never good news. Then I think, gosh,
imagine looking like that. Imagine being able to approach a girl you like
and be greeted with a SMILE, rather than a look of fear or apprehension.
Imagine what that would do for your self esteem, not to mention your whole
outlook on life. Wow! They don't realise how lucky they are."

I don't know if Drakfalz is correct, but assuming he is and before I
touch the registry, I would re-install my old VGA card and set the
desktop resolution to minimum then re-install the new card and make
adjustments from there.

Too bad you don't have a copy of the drivers that came with the card,
I was having the same problem with my new MSI GF FX5600 using the
nVidia reference drivers. I changed to the drivers that came with the
card and now it is much more stable. Still freezes sometimes, but at
least I can work with it in Windows.
