Default A7V333 BIOS settings

may i know what is your pcb revision? Asus website states that only revision
2 above support a 333MHz FSB cpu. since you said your original bios is 1005,
i guess it should be revision 1.xx? cause my A7V333 with 1006 bios is a rev
1.xx board.

Is there anybody out there managed to get a 333FSB athlon to run on A7V333
rev 1? I saw from the bios setting that the board support 166MHz bus, i
wonder why asus state that a 333FSB athlon is not supported? can anybody pls
explain? I am running a 1800+ and wish to upgrade to a faster processor..

another question is regarding the CPU usage during video compression. I try
to compress raw AVI file (from miniDV) to mpeg 2 on my 1800+ athlon on
A7V333, i noticed that the CPU usage stays around 85-90%, at around 12fps..
I wonder why it doesn't takes up all the cpu power and compress at a higher
frame rate? is it the memory bottleneck? I am using 256MB PC2700 memory,
CL2.5. If it's the memory, that's mean I won't get any performance
improvement by upgrading to a faster CPU, right? what can I do to further
improve the performance? will upgrading to CL2 memory help?

thanks.

Not sure if I can really help as I have a rev 2.0. However I had my 1800+ a
core in the board running at 166fsb on bios 1012 (I think), but I now have a
Barton 2500+ at 167fsb and 14x multiplier. It seems that all the bios
update to 1017 did was enable the bios to correctly identify the Barton at
standard settings , now it is over clocked it just reports the cpu speed -
but obviously this is a rev 2.0 board - don't know what difference is, but
if you can get 166fsb - I am not sure if there would be a problem

I noticed using flask mpeg that cpu usage is in the 95 - 97% range - but the
Barton does wide screen dvd - divx at over 30 fps - the overclocked 1800 (a
core) using the same ram could not achieve that speed (I am used to pal at
25 fps) - I am also using pc2700 and was wondering myself if that loss of
efficiency was due to a 166 fsb - I also have 2.5cl - I can not get the
machine to boot at cl 2.0 - so not sure if would help

thanks.

I have an A7V333-R version 1.04 with BIOS 1016 and it's running a Barton
2500+ with no problems. I'm currently overclocking it slightly at 12 x 166.
I haven't tried any higher yet because I have the retail HSF and it gets a
bit hot.

Even though Asus say it's not supported it might work.

Dave.
