Default Don't buy from planetmicro

After waiting three weeks for my order which should have been
delivered in two days, it finally arrived four days after i cancelled
it. I decided to keep it as i had waited so long. I tried to set it up
but no luck. I didn't want to wait any longer so instead of sending it
back i took it to my local internet cafe and asked their technician to
have a look at it. The problems were

1.The system had been wrongly connected
2.The XP installation disk had been used three times before
3.The keyboard didn't work
4.The front USB ports didn't work
5.There was no fan
6.There was no software for the DVD

I sent two e-mails complaining and asking for a part refund but they
didn't reply. They are the worst company i have ever dealt with and i
advise everyone not to buy from them.

You were doing *so* well up until the 'I advise everyone...' bit.

Huh? How could he tell how many times the disk had been used? If (s)he's
saying the CD key provided has already been used to activate a copy of
XP then get on to MS's piracy people.

Sounds like a Time Xmas Special to me (do they still do those?)

Ah, yes, maybe the OP meant that they'd had three attempts at installing
it on his PC which, if this is the case, makes Planet grade A plonkers
'coz most people would have deleted the existing partition and started
from scratch.

BTW, it's "Windows" on XP, not "winnt" ;-)

It's C:\ WINNT on this XP box, and every other one I have come across.

Got to disagree. My XPHome box is E:\Windows.
Could it be a home/pro thing?

It's Windows on the XP Pro machine about eighteen inches to the left of
where I'm typing this, which I did a virgin install of about a week ago.
Tony, have the machines you've used been upgraded from Win2k, or
something? Or are they all pre-built by some OEM?

It's \WINDOWS on the three XP Pro machines I have here, all clean
installs. NT called the directory \WINNT, can't remember about W2K but I
think that was \WINDOWS as well.

If you did an _upgrade_ to XP it would use the existing directory name.

Also if you did a clean install on over an existing NT but without
deleting the partition first, i.e. it finds the existing NT, asks if you
want to upgrade or clean install, you pick the latter, but it still uses
\WINNT. Caveat: I only ever did that once, ages ago, so it's definitely
a case of AFAIR ;-)
