RAM disks?
What happened to the software Ram disk??? are they still available???
"Jamey Kirby" wrote: They are called "Solid State Disk Drives" Very expensive! "Paul Rubin" wrote in message ... What's around in RAM disks these days? I'm imagining something in a 3.5" or CD-ROM form factor, ATA or SCSI interface, capacity in the 1GB-4GB range, with built in battery power and magnetic backup. The idea is to just swap it in place of a hard drive in a database server. Do those things really speed up database traffic? How much do they cost? The application is to speed up an overloaded web site with minimal effort (of course a better fix would be rework the software, but that's not always feasible). Thanks. There was a flame war^w^w discussion on the topic of SSDs, RAM disks and disk cache a few weeks ago on this newsgroup and you might want to look it up. |
