Intel to phase out several 45nm CPUs Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 16 November 2010] Intel has recently notified its partners that the company will phase out 21 45nm processors to allow a smooth transition to the new Sandy Bridge processor. Intel already issued product discontinuance notice (PDN) for its Core i7-975X earlier this quarter with end of lifecycle (EOL) to take place in the first quarter of 2011, while the Core i5-750 will see PDN in the first quarter of 2011 and EOL in the third quarter. As for 45nm quad-core products, four processors including Core 2 Quad Q9650 already had PDN early this quarter, while five more processors including Core 2 Quad Q9300, 9505 and Q8400 will receive PDN in the third quarter. For the dual-core, Core 2 Duo E8600 and E8500 will see PDN in the third quarter with Core 2 Duo E7500 and E7600 scheduled to have PDN in the second quarter and EOL in the fourth. As for entry-level products, Pentium E6300 has already been issued with PDN, while Pentium E5600 will see PDN in the second quarter and EOL in the third quarter. Pentium E5600 and E6600 will both have PDN in the first quarter of 2011. Meanwhile, Celeron E3200 and E3300 will see PDN in the first and the fourth quarter of 2011, respectively. As for the new products, Intel will launch close to 10 new processors including quad-core Core i7-2600 and 2500, Core i5 2400 and 2300, and dual-core Core i3-2120 and 2100. Quad-core processors will consume only 95W with dual-core CPUs to use 65W. The company will also have Core i3-2100T with only 32W TDP for mini-ITX motherboard and all-in-one PC. |
