Default D975XBX and Pentium D 965

I have Intel D975XBX motherboard and Pentium D 965 processor . But
processor only runs at 3.20 GHz no matter what I do to the multiplier.
I tried 13 ,14 ,15 and 16 with no luck. What am I doing wrong? Any help
would be really appreciated.

Alex

What do you mean by "do to the multiplier?" The way you change the
multiplier is hardware, you must install a different one. On other M/B you
could change the clock, but I wouldn't bet that works on an Intel M/B.

The D975XBX BIOS lets you change the multiplier as well as clock. Have a
look, page 6:

I would suspect you have slow memory in the board and therefore the BIOS
set the FSB to 800MHz instead of 1060MHz which gives 3.73GHz operation.

CPU-Z shows that FSB is 266.7 and bus speed is 1066.

I updated BIOS once again with the same version and now processor runs at
3.73. Weird.

If you look at that data, the line which says "engineering sample" is
reported as YES, which means the multiplier is unlocked. Unless you have
an engineering sample the multiplier is locked. The fact that your
attempts to change the multiplier didn't work suggest you have a
production CPU.

Yes, 4x difference is "quad-pumped" or some similar buzzword. In any
case, glad you found the problem.
