Default IDE Cable required for CD-ROM?

Is there any speed advantage in using 80 wire IDE cables for CD-ROM, DVD-ROM
or CD-RW, or will they still operate at the same speed as they would via a
40 wire IDE cable?

No speed advantage for a CD drive. Might increase signal strength since the
middle wires are grounded at the mobo side. If you have more than one CD you can
use the CS on both of them instead of setting one as master and other as slave.
Due to the gound plane of the other 4 wires, it might solve or prevent any
problems from CD to CDR copy that sometimes plague the 40 wire cables. For 80
wire the blue plug is to the motherboard IDE, too often that is not realized.
