Is there an Intel chip I'm missing? - thanks all

I think I can now safely go with a 955 chip, there really doesn't seem to be something with any better fit. Hardware VM will have to wait for another test cycle. Plenty of the articles I've seen have said that the 955 (and the D 9xx series in general) has virtualualization support, including Intel's own web page: http://www.intel.com/products/proces...umXE/index.htm Bill Davidsen wrote: I'm looking to build an Intel based system which is as capable as possible within the budget and specs. I would like to have dual core, hardware virtualization support, EM64T and HT, and I don't see a CPU which provides that. I didn't see any new announce which has all this, and it starts to look as if the 955 chip is as close as I'm going to get. -- Nate Edel http://www.cubiclehermit.com/ "What's the use of yearning for Elysian Fields when you know you can't get 'em, and would only let 'em out on building leases if you had 'em?" Now I'm totally confused, does Intel have two kinds of "hardware virtualization support" now to muddy the waters even more? Thanks for the link, I wish all the pages on the Intel site would agree, or if they agree use the same terminology :-( -- -bill davidsen ) "The secret to procrastination is to put things off until the last possible moment - but no longer" -me |

I'm surprised if it only footnotes the 955EE/965EE; my understanding is all of the 900-series chips had it, from the 920 on up. Now I'm totally confused, does Intel have two kinds of "hardware virtualization support" now to muddy the waters even more? Not as far as I know; as far as I know, all of their 65nm chips have virtualization support, whether Core Duo, or last-legs Pentium 4/Netburst based. Thanks for the link, I wish all the pages on the Intel site would agree, or if they agree use the same terminology :-( You're welcome. Intel is a very big company; it's pretty well guaranteed that some parts won't always know exactly what the other parts are doing. -- Nate Edel http://www.cubiclehermit.com/ "What's the use of yearning for Elysian Fields when you know you can't get 'em, and would only let 'em out on building leases if you had 'em?"
