Default DVD-drive for the COMPAQ LTE 5000 Family?

Hello everybody,

can please anyone tell me if there is a 3rd Party DVD-Drive (for the
Multibay)
for the LTE 5000 Series?? A friend in U.S.A told me that he has seen
that in his country.

Is this true? If yes, where can i get it? I didnīt find info about this
on google.

neither dvd or CDR-W were built specifically for the lte 5000 family,

Historically dvds need a 233 or faster processor to utilize software decoding.
IBM overcame processor speed with building a hardware decoder, but compaq never
produced a hardware decoder and with the 5000 Family line processor speed
maxing out at 166 software decoding wasnt an option.

On the CDR-W front, Compaq never made one, but you could most likely fit one
from another laptop as long as you can retain the adapter interface that is
between the cd and the laptop interface. I have been able to do this many
times with newer laptops and mix and match manufactures, the most importan part
is that you have the interface adapter to the machine you are placing it into.

The other solution would be a pcmcia external OR parallel unit (yech)

Cheers

Since I do not own a docking bay with the CD-ROM drive, I installed a Sony
drive into an external drive bay and attached it to my printer port...it was
recognized by this ancient laptop Compaq LTE 5000 (1st notebook ever built).

My problem is getting it to recognize RAM. I updated what I could by
downloading newest BIOS from HP/Compaq website...but it still does not
recognize RAM.

I am amazed tho...everything else works fine...excellent in fact.

I even hooked into my network with a PMCIA Lan card and I also have a 33.6
modem card installed.

Of course I am still running Windows 95 b.

Any ideas regarding the RAM upgrade?

Thanks

What brand and size RAM are you trying to add?

Just the two 8mb that came with it...purchased used at flea market.

Then I bought 1 x 32 at the computer store and it didn't recognize it
either...

When I added the 2 x 8mb it booted up with 12,000+ ram when it should have
read 16 + 8 (on board) = 24 mb

Oh well...I just ordered another 2 x 16 from eBay so hopefully they will
work. Meanwhile it's in mint condition and am connected to the net with
only 8mb ram...win 95 o/s
