On cooling
Case side-panels have to be the biggest obstacle to cooling.
My temps were 9C lower with side-panel off (Globalwin 802) - so I fitted a 9"-square, louvred, plastic vent to it (bottom/rear). And cut out the chassis' exhaust grille. Temps dropped 7-8C, from 45/66C to 38/54C - only 2C above panel-off temps. Do it now! QED, eh ? ------------------- Epox 8RDA3+ (224 FSB - 2.0v) XP1700 DUT3C (9.5 - 2128 MHz stable = XP2600 - 1.775v) 2 x OCZ 256MB PC3700 (448 - 6-3-3 / 2.0 dual - 2.9v) Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro (1.5v) Air - 38/54C 3DMk03 - 5,098 3DMk01 - 16,126 |

I found that removing the top (/side) panel of the case made little difference to temps - I guess because with the 'access' side-panel blocking the flow, there is still little bulk air movement. Once that blockage is removed, there's more than enough throughput out of the PSU and exhaust fans. You can get away with very low CFM/dB fans if there's sufficient non-impedance of the bulk flow. I now have - PSU cover removed. All grilles, blanking slats and guards removed. With 2 CPU, 1 PSU (obviously), 1 VGA and 1 exhaust fan - all of which are 19CFM/12dB. |
