what Dell systems have ultiple USB 2.0 or IEEE-1394 "channels"?
What, if andy, Dell systems can I buy configured from Dell+Dell
accessories store that have IEEE-1394 or USB 2.0 "channels"? For example, I'm told that the Sound Blaster Audigy only has one "channel" for IEEE-1394, even though it has both 4-pin and 6-pin jacks. I'd need a motherboard to get a second "channel". The PCI bus would probably be a bottleneck, so I'd probably need motherboard support. Background: Dell, and for that matter, HP Compaq don't seem to understand the problem, so I wouldn't believe something on one of their sites unless I had independent confirmation of it. I'd like 2 or more IEEE-1394 and 2 or more USB 2.0. I'm more interested in IEEE-1394 since I can use it to network 2 machines. I want to have a main system with 4 IEEE-1394 channels and 2 systems each with 2 IEEE-1394. With my current machines I can move data from/to shared disks faster with IEEE-1394 than with Gigabit Ethernet, but I can't expand to 3 systems or use IEEE-1394 disks at full speed with my current systems that only have one IEEE-1394 "channel" each. ----== Posted via Newsfeed.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 100,000 Newsgroups ---= 19 East/West-Coast Specialized Servers - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |

Not an answer to your question. But, why not get an Adaptec Duoconnect PCI
card with 3-port USB 2.0 and 2-port FireWire combination card for PCs and Macs. That's what I have in my Dimension 4550, works Great! Cost $80 at www.adapect.com or $64 at www.Buy.com My Duoconnect also has two internal Firewire Ports, but the Adaptec site doesn't mention it having those anymore. Also, if you do DV editing get the "Y" molex power connector. My Dell didn't have an extra one and if it did I doubt it would reach the Duoconnect on the motherboard. The only place I could find one (that I knew would work) was at the Adaptec site. * Optional internal computer power connection allows each FireWire port to supply up to 18W of power (12VDC at 1.5A). Power cable available here. HTH Pat Conover Remove *nospam* to e-mail me. "Mark Fineman" wrote in message ...
