Default DAT tape streamer

Hi,

Does anybody know why this streamer 'eats' tapes?
I have added a new disk which was quite close to the tape streamer so I
thought this might have been the reason.
After moving the disk further away it worked fine for a while but now,

again
a tape got stucked.

Thanks in advance for any ideas,
Nico

A wild guess (I don't even know what sort of DAT you have) is that some
pressure was applied to the cover of the drive which is interfering with the
drive to the takeup spindle. Having this particular part stop or even run a
little slowly/unevenly is a sure way to destroy tapes.

DAT drives are extremely delicate devices and I don't suggest you open yours
unless you are really sure of your abilities. I've fixed a few but I've been
a techie since the mid-60s and still don't mess with DATs unless the drive
has been considered truly dead and probably beyond economical repair.
