'Can't open output audio device.' / Nero 6

Greetings all,
I'm using Nero 6.3 with Win98.

I have loaded a commercial audio CD into the drive.

Double click Nero Start Smart.

Nero console comes up on screen with listing of the audio tracks.

I double click on a track and I get a dialog box that says:

'Can't open output audio device.'

I am baffled.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What are you trying to do with the commercial audio CD? Are you trying
to play it? Are you trying to make a copy?

There are several possibilities. One is that you are using the analogue
interface and have not turned it on in your mixer. Another is that some
other application (e.g., Pinnacle Studio) has taken exclusive control of
the interface whether it needs it or not.
